Prime Data Centers has broken ground on three out of five buildings at its 240MW PHX01 campus in Phoenix, Arizona.

Each building spans 267,000 sq ft (24,805 sqm) and will provide 48MW of IT capacity.

Prime has also commissioned a 250MW substation for the campus, and Phase I of the substation will provide 144MW of IT capacity when completed.

The data center campus will be located on a 66.5 acre land parcel located at 3700 S. Avondale Boulevard. Prime paid around $28.9 million for the site back in April 2023.

Prime said that the first three buildings have been secured by a “leading hyperscaler.” The remaining two buildings, which have not begun construction, are still available.

Prime has 7GW of operational and planned capacity across the US and Europe. In America, the company has projects in Austin and Dallas, Texas; Chicago, Illinois; and Los Angeles, Sacramento, and Silicon Valley, California. Its European data centers are located in Frankfurt, Germany, and Madrid, Spain.

Private investment firm Grain Management completed a significant preferred equity investment in Prime’s controlling shareholder, Data Realty Holding Corp., in April, giving Prime additional financial support to expand its data center offerings.
