Pakistani telecoms operator Jazz has expanded its 5G network to 1,000 live sites.

The Veon subsidiary claims to be the first in the country to achieve the milestone, just months after launching its 5G network.

Jazz launched its 5G network back in March shortly after securing a license to operate the network.

After hitting 1,000 sites, the company has outlined plans to expand this number to 2,500 5G sites by the end of this year.

Jazz's initial 5G rollout kicked off in Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Lahore, Karachi, Peshawar, Quetta, Multan, and Faisalabad, but has since expanded across these markets, and extended to Sialkot and Gujranwala.

“Reaching 1,000 5G sites at this pace reflects our determination to bring the benefits of 5G to more Pakistanis, faster," said Kazim Mujtaba, president, Jazz GSM.

"As we scale to 2,500 sites by year-end, our focus is on delivering a better digital experience through greater capacity, faster speeds and more reliable connectivity, while enabling new services and use cases as 5G adoption grows.”

Jazz launched its network at the same time as domestic rival Zong. Pakistan's government had previously set a target to launch 5G services last summer, though this did not come to fruition.
