Data center operator MyTelehaus is set to open a data center in Selangor, Malaysia, with participation from a joint venture formed by Singaporean property developer Lum Chang and Malaysian investor Tien Wah.

According to Lum Chang’s filing with the Singapore stock exchange on January 7, the company’s joint venture, known as Lum Chang Tien Wah Property Sdn Berhad, has entered into an agreement with MyTelehaus to build a data center covering 1.61 acres in Petaling Jaya, located to the west of Malaysia's capital, Kuala Lumpur.

Kuala Lumpur is one of two main data center hubs in Malaysia, with the other located in Johor Bahru at the country’s southern peninsular tip. The capital is known primarily as a colocation and cloud hub, whereas Johor Bahru is home to substantially more hyperscale activity.

Lum Chang and Tien Wah will “be responsible for constructing the core and shell of the data center,” and MyTelehaus will manage matters relating to “the design, build, fund [of] the supply, installation and fit-out, testing, and commissioning of the mechanical and electrical portion of the data center.”

The filing also states that the gross revenue earned by both will be proportionate to the “percentage of the actual cumulative capital expenditure contributions by each party for each completed development phase.”

Details about the facility’s capacity and its construction timeline were not shared.

Lum Chang is one of Singapore’s largest construction and property management companies. It is unclear whether it has built data centers before.

The primary activity of Malaysia-based Tien Wah, known in full as Tien Wah Press Holdings, is investment holding, but its subsidiaries are engaged in the printing business.

Local operator MyTelehaus was acquired by Hong Kong-based information and communication technology (ICT) and telecommunications company PCCW in 2020. DigitalBridge acquired PCCW’s data center business in 2021, merging it into Vantage.
