NTT has acquired six acres of land to construct a 70MW data center in Noida, India.

The Japanese company will reportedly invest Rs 1,000 crore ($137 million) in the project, and the facility will be located in west Noida, in the Uttar Pradesh region of India.

“The data center will be established in techzone IV of Greater Noida west. The company will require a supply of 70MW electricity. The data center is part of a 25-acre SEZ, which already houses some multinational companies including IBM,” said a spokesperson for the Greater Noida authority.

Noida facility increases NTT capacity massively

NTT announced a new hyperscale 38MW facility in Mumbai in September, which brought the number of data centers it operates in the country to 10 data centers and over 150MW of power. The new Noida facility sees the Japanese company’s capacity in India jump by almost 50 percent.

Noida, located outside Delhi in the north of the country, is looking to draw more data center investment to the area. Last year Uttar Pradesh Chief minister Yogi Adityanath announced his government aimed to create a new policy to attract more data center investment in the Noida area.

Yotta and its owner the Hiranandani Group announced the Rs3,000-4,000 Crore ($450m-$600m) campus in July 2020. When fully operational, the park will have four data centers and a capacity of 200MW. NTT has previously said it plans to double its data center capacity in India as part of its expansion plans.

Last week STT GDC submitted plans for an $82 million, 18MW greenfield data center campus in Noida, India. The proposed campus would provide services to major cloud players, hyperscalers, and large enterprises, and would be scalable to reach 36MW capacity in the second phase of development.
