NTT has reportedly begun work to expand its Zurich 1 data center in Rümlang, Switzerland

The site, located outside Zurich, currently has around 6,500 sqm (70,000 sq ft) of space. Zuercher Unterlaender reports that the company has broken ground on a new building – known as Building B – which will add around 4,500 sqm (48,000 sq ft) to the facility at Hofwisenstrasse 56.

“The existing A-building is now being joined by a B-part, which includes a further 4,500 square meters,” said Olivier Honold from NTT GDC. Phase 1 of building B is reportedly due to be completed in early 2022.

The facility, which opened in 2011, was previously an e-shelter data center before NTT acquired a majority stake in the German company in 2015.

According to ComputerWorld, e-shelter/NTT first filed an application to spend around 80 million Swiss francs ($88m) adding an additional 4,800 square meters of floorspace in 2018. NTT retired the e-shelter brand in 2019.
