Nscale is teaming up with Vast Data on its recently announced capacity expansions.

Following several major announcements from Nscale, including plans to provide Microsoft with 116,000 Nvidia GB300 GPUs, deploying a cluster in Portugal, and signing a deal to provide compute to Microsoft in Norway, Nscale has announced that it will use Vast Data's AI Operating System to underpin its expansion.

The neocloud has plans to scale to 300,000 Nvidia Grace Blackwell GPUs globally, and will use the Vast Data architecture to optimize its AI infrastructure efficiency and unify data access across continents.

According to the company, the "vision" is to create an "integrated, globally distributed AI cloud."

“The future of AI will not be defined by raw compute alone, but by the strength of the foundations we build,” said Tom Burke, chief revenue officer at Nscale. “That means infrastructure that can scale globally, operate responsibly, and deliver when it matters most. With Vast as one of our data layers, we are able to take on the complexity of hyperscale AI and make it seamless for our customers – putting rich data services at the center of the modern AI cloud. Together, we are creating a new standard for the next era of enterprise AI infrastructure.”

Jeff Denworth, co-founder of Vast Data, added: "This is not just about building another cloud, it is about creating the global fabric that will power the next generation of AI.

"By serving as a partner in the next phase of Nscale’s GPU build-out, the Vast AI OS proves what the industry already knows: AI innovation is impossible without a data platform that can keep up. Working with Nscale and we are defining the model for hyperscale AI infrastructure and showing the world what the future looks like.”

Speaking to DCD, Nscale's Tom Burke said of the recent burst of announcements: "We were certainly in stealth mode for a number of years there. A big part of that for us was that we were very strategic around where we started, as far as building this from the ground up and the vertically integrated approach we took. For us, that started with power in strategic locations."

While Nscale does use colocation providers where needed, the company aims to develop its own data centers to "build from the ground up the underlying data center, to the GPU, to the software orchestration layer, which is in partnership with Vast."

According to Burke, the company is able to get the "lowest cost of compute" by following this strategy.

According to Burke, the Vast solution was chosen as it takes the "underlying data being fed into the environment, and it really simplifies the end user experience, both for us, as far as the cloud that we operate, as well as for our end customers."

Aside from Nscale's major deals with Microsoft, the company has closed two significant funding rounds in recent months: $1.1 billion in September 2025, and $433m in Series C SAFE funding in October.

Earlier this year, Vast Data was reportedly seeking funding at a $30bn valuation.

Vast Data creates storage technology - using flash drives and other off-the-shelf hardware combined with specialized software - for large AI data centers and to improve the movement of data between GPUs.

The company unveiled an AI architecture for data centers in 2024 that was developed in partnership with Nvidia and built on Nvidia BlueField-3 data processing unit (DPU) technology, making it possible to "disaggregate the entirety of Vast’s operating system natively into AI computing machinery, transforming supercomputers into AI data engines."
