European data center firm NorthC is expanding its footprint in Germany with new facilities, and extending its existing footprint in the Netherlands.
This week, the company announced plans to launch new data centers in Frankfurt and Berlin, both of which are set to launch in 2026.
Phase 1 of the new Frankfurt facility – its second in the city – will see the development of 1.5MW of IT load, with capacity expected to scale up to a maximum of 10.5MW in the coming years.
The Berlin facility will launch with an initial IT load capacity of 3MW with the potential to grow to 8MW. On LinkedIn, the company added the Berlin site was a redevelopment project.
Further details on either site were not shared.
“The growing digitization of business processes and government services across Europe is fueling a rising demand for reliable, scalable, and sustainable data center capacity,” said Alexandra Schless, CEO of NorthC Datacenters.
“These new locations are an important milestone in our growth strategy. With a network of over 20 data centers across Europe, we are well-positioned to serve our customers regionally, working closely with various IT partners and network providers.”
The company announced plans for its first Frankfurt facility in January 2024. That site is set to launch operations with an IT load capacity of 3MW.
NorthC will also expand the capacity of its existing German data centers, in Munich and Nuremberg, in 2025. Further details weren’t shared.
In the Netherlands, an additional 11MW of IT load capacity will be made available next year across its facilities in Almere, Rotterdam, Aalsmeer, and Eindhoven.
NorthC was formed in 2019 from the merger of Dutch data center firms TDCG and NLDC, originally a subsidiary of Dutch telecoms company KPN. In recent years, it has begun expanding to other European countries, buying Netrics in Switzerland and the IP Exchange in Germany.
Today, the company operates around a dozen data centers in the Netherlands; two in Germany; and four in Switzerland.
