Nokia said it will work with Telefónica's mobile unit, plus its Telefónica IoT & Big Data Tech division, to deploy the private networks.

According to the two companies, the strategic agreement is a step towards boosting Industry 4.0 in the enterprise Spanish market, while improving Telefonica’s network capabilities to drive new use cases.

The contract will target mission-critical industries such as ports, manufacturing, and logistics, which Nokia notes "aim to improve productivity, worker safety, and sustainability in the Spanish Enterprise market."

"This collaboration with Nokia aligns with our vision of empowering the industry with cutting-edge technology in a new era where Artificial Intelligence and the use of data lead the way forward," said Adrián García Nevado, business director at Telefónica Spain.

"This strategy is preceded by more than 90 use cases with real customers for exploring the capabilities of 5G."

To date, Nokia has deployed mission-critical networks to more than 2,600 enterprise customers in the transportation, energy, large enterprise, manufacturing, webscale, and public sector segments globally.
