New Zealand ICT firm Datacom has acquired a data center in Auckland.

The company this week announced it had acquired T4's Auckland data center. Terms of the deal were not shared.

Located at 42 Business Parade South in the Highbrook Business Park in East Tāmaki and built around 2010 by IBM before Kyndryl’s spin-out, the facility totals around 5,200 sqm (56,000 sq ft) and 8MW of capacity.

T4 had been using the facility since 2022 and acquired it from Kyndryl in 2024.

Datacom said the facility offers 1,500 sqm (16,145 sq ft) of raised floor space, hosting multiple public and private sector organizations.

Datacom has taken over all existing customer agreements, with the switchover completed on 31 March.

Datacom’s second site in Auckland, the purchase expands the company’s footprint to five sites across the country. The other Auckland site offers 10MW of capacity.

“Today, sovereign infrastructure is a critical priority for organizations that need certainty over where their data resides, how it is governed, and how reliably it can be accessed,” said Datacom CEO Greg Davidson. “With our four existing New Zealand data centers, this new acquisition and the planned investment in the site, Datacom has committed more than NZ$200m (US$115.36m) to building out our data center capability in New Zealand. With greenfield data center investment opportunities being a focus, this investment level is expected to increase.”

T4 chief executive, Dean Addie, said the deal reflects T4’s long-term strategy to focus investment on regional data center infrastructure across New Zealand.

“This transition allows us to accelerate our regional expansion while ensuring customers in major centers continue to be supported by a trusted local New Zealand operator,” he said. “With T4 concentrating on regional infrastructure and Datacom continuing to expand its Auckland footprint, we see this as a positive step in strengthening New Zealand’s sovereign data center capability and supporting customers, government, and communities across the country.”

Datacom was founded as Computer Bureau Ltd in 1965. Today, the firm offers a number of cloud, network, security, colocation, software, and managed services. The company operates four other data centers within New Zealand across Auckland, Hamilton, Wellington, and Christchurch. In Australia, Datacom partners with AirTrunk to provide customers with capacity within facilities in Sydney and Melbourne.

Founded in 2021, T4 has a data center on the North Island in Whangarei and is planning another on New Zealand’s South Island.
