Indonesian data center developer NeutraDC has partnered with renewable energy developer Medco Power to deploy solar power at its data center facility in Batam, Indonesia.

The companies signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for the development of solar power at the Kabil Industrial Estate, where the data center is being developed. The MoU also included a “long-term ESG commitment” to drive progress toward a greener, AI-ready digital ecosystem.

The NeutraDC hyperscale data center is expected to have a capacity exceeding 60MW and will be developed in three phases across an eight-hectare site. The company broke ground on the project in January 2023, with operations expected to commence in Q3 2025.

The initial phase of the project will deliver around 20MW and is expected to be powered through renewable energy developed by Medco Power. Development of the project is expected to cost around IDR 1.4 trillion ($86 million).

The data center will be majority owned by Telkom Indonesia - under the NeutraDC name - while Singtel and Medco Power will be minority shareholders.

“As an AI enabler, our data center requires massive energy. This partnership ensures that we meet that demand responsibly,” Indrama YM Purba, CEO of NeutraDC Nxera Batam said.

In addition to the Batam facility, NeutraDC also operates a hyperscale data center in Cikarang, as well as three core data centers in Sentul, Serpong, and Surabaya, and 21 Edge facilities across Java, Bali, Sumatra, Sulawesi, and Kalimantan.

Last March, it was reported that Telkom Indonesia had consolidated its Singaporean data center portfolio under the NeutraDC Singapore (NDSG) name. The transaction was completed for a reported $219 million, though the money has just moved between Telkom subsidiaries.
