Netrality has announced plans for a new data center in Shawnee, Kansas.

The company this week revealed it had acquired 7801 Nieman Road. This will be Netrality’s second data center in Kansas; it currently has one data center in Kansas City at 1102 Grand Blvd. The company acquired the 156,117 sq ft facility in 2012.

The new data center spans 172,000 square feet with 2MW of capacity currently available. An additional megawatt will be delivered during Netrality’s first phase of development followed by another 3MW during phase two.

Reports that Netrality was expanding in the city surfaced last month after it applied to Shawnee City Council for $36 million in federal bonds to finance its renovation of the property.

“I’d like to thank the City of Shawnee for their support and approval of the Industrial Revenue Bonds. We look forward to partnering with the Shawnee Economic Development Council and contributing to the growth of the region,” said Gerald M. Marshall, CEO of Netrality Data Centers. “We are excited to expand Netrality’s presence within the market. The close proximity to 1102 Grand makes 7801 Nieman Road an attractive facility to further support the increasing capacity demands we are seeing from our interconnection and wholesale customers.”

According to previous brochures, 7801 Nieman Rd was built in 1998 and sits on nearly 11 acres of land in the Nieman Business Park. The two-story building totals 175,737 sq ft (16,300 sqm).

“We are extremely pleased to see Netrality select Shawnee as the location for their new data center,” Lieutenant Governor and Kansas Department of Commerce Secretary David Toland said. “Data centers have unique requirements, and Kansas delivered with attractive site options, a skilled workforce, and other exceptional assets that demonstrate our commitment to meeting Netrality’s growing needs.”
