GridCARE, an AI startup focusing on expediting the route to market for data centers seeking a grid connection, has raised $64 million as part of its Series A funding round. The round was led by Sutter Hill Ventures.

According to the company, the new capital will support the expansion of its GridCARE Energize platform, which utilizes AI to evaluate “quadrillions of grid conditions in real time, modeling congestion, outages, weather, and demand variability simultaneously to identify capacity that traditional interconnection processes cannot see.”

"A year ago, few people were talking about power as a bottleneck for AI - today it's the rate-limiting step for the entire industry. GridCARE is directly addressing that bottleneck, with an unmatched team, deep domain expertise, and overwhelming customer demand," said Vic Miller, managing director at Sutter Hill Ventures. "Power sits beneath every other layer of the AI stack, and we believe Power Acceleration will be the key technology that enables the AI economy to scale."

The company claims that the platform can compress interconnection timelines from years to months, significantly increasing the ability of large-scale data centers to secure an expedited grid connection.

"The largest source of new power for the AI economy isn't waiting to be built. It's already in the ground, hidden in the grid we already have," said Ram Rajagopal, co-founder and CTO of GridCARE, and a tenured Stanford professor on leave to build the company. "Our job is to make it visible and put it to work in months, not years."

The company has already completed a demonstration project with utility Portland General Electric. According to the companies, the project freed up 80MW of incremental capacity for additional data center load in 2026, part of a total of more than 400MW that will be energized by 2029.

The company claims it is now engaged in AI data center power acceleration projects across more than a dozen markets, totaling more than 2GW of new capacity.

GridCARE was launched last year, following the successful raise of $13.5m. The company was born out of the Stanford Sustainability Accelerator program

The company is headed up by Amit Narayan, who previously founded chip design automation firm Berkley Design Automation. Other co-founders of the company include Ram Rajagopal, Liang Min, and Arun Majumdar, all of whom are employees at Stanford University.
