The Meta-owned Anjana subsea cable has landed in Santander, Spain.
Once complete, the 7,121km cable will connect Myrtle Beach in South Carolina, US, to Santander in Spain.
The cable is expected to have a capacity of almost 500Tbps, with each of the 24 fiber pairs having a design capacity of 20Tbps.
It marks Meta’s third investment in a subsea cable landing in Spain, after the Marea and 2Africa cables.
“Our mission is to give people the power to build community and the Anjana cable will help provide better experiences to those who use our products and services. Spain is at the forefront of European technology and our investment in this new submarine cable is another step in our commitment to the country," said Irene Cano, managing director of Meta Iberia.
DCD reported Meta was building a US-to-Spain cable in May last year when the company filed with the FCC for a new private cable system.
US data center firm DC Blox confirmed at the time that the Anjana cable would be landing at its Myrtle Beach cable landing station.
There are currently no other cables landing in Santander or Myrtle Beach, though the latter will soon be home to the Confluence-1, Nuvem, and Google’s Firmina cable.
Tech giant Meta currently also owns the Apricot, Havhingsten, Echo and Bifrost cables, as well as having partial interests in the 2Africa, Malbec, Jupiter, AEC-1, and APG cables.
