CenturyLink suffered a major broadband outage that impacted more than 35,000 of its customers yesterday in the US.
The broadband provider wasn't the only one to suffer an outage, with Quantum Fiber also affected.
Both companies are owned by Lumen Technologies, while Brightspeed, which acquired Lumen's incumbent local exchange carrier (ILEC) business in 20 states three years ago, also saw problems.
The outage left customers of the three companies with connectivity issues, although services have since been restored.
"On June 19, some customers experienced a temporary service disruption due to a network routing issue. Our technical teams quickly identified the cause and worked diligently to resolve it. All services have since been fully restored," said Lumen in a statement to DCD.
As noted by Downdetector, CenturyLink customers first reported problems just before 5:30 pm ET yesterday evening (June 19).
Reports peaked around an hour later with 35,500 customers noting issues. Residents in Colorado, in particular in the Denver metropolitan area, appeared to be the worst affected.
More than 18,000 Quantum Fiber customers reported connectivity problems, while more than 3,000 noted issues on Brightspeed's network.
CenturyLink announced in 2020 that it would rebrand its enterprise business as Lumen Technologies, as the company overhauls its corporate branding.
Its original name remains in place for its residential and small enterprise business, when selling them traditional networks. The company's fiber-to-the-home and business division was rebranded as Quantum Fiber, and relies on Lumen’s fiber network and infrastructure.
