CenturyLink is rebranding its enterprise business as Lumen Technologies, as the company overhauls its corporate branding.

Its original name will remain - for now - for its residential and small enterprise business, when selling them traditional networks. But its fiber-to-the-home and -business division will be rebranded as Quantum Fiber, and rely on Lumen’s fiber network and infrastructure.

From September 18, the company stock ticker will change from CTL to LUMN.

"This is an amazing day," CEO Jeff Storey said. "With Lumen we are reinventing and repositioning the company to deliver on a brand new promise - to further human progress through technology."

Lumen will offer its global network assets, cloud Edge investments, security expertise, and collaboration services under its new name. The company operates 450,000 route fiber miles serving customers in more than 60 countries. Back when it was CenturyLink in 2017, the company sold off its data center business to a group of investors that rebranded it as Cyxtera.

EVP and CMO Shaun Andrews added: “All of our futures will be driven by smart things, applications and digital services that use data for transformational purposes. To serve this colossal need and further human progress through technology, we have launched Lumen and are delivering our technology through the Lumen Platform, a platform for amazing things.”

In its announcement, Lumen said that the rebrand was a huge shift set to help deliver on the changes set to be brought about by the fourth Industrial Revolution. "The company does not intend to change its financial strategy or financial reporting as a result of this announcement," it told investors.
