GTM2 will be located in Condado Naranjo, Mixco, in the metropolitan area of Guatemala City. The company aims to invest more than $20 million in the project.

Kio already operates a data center in Guatemala, the GTM1, which has a capacity of approximately 385kW. This new facility will scale up to 1MW in its initial phase, with a design that will support rack densities of 8-12kW.

Construction will take between 12 and 16 months, with operations expected to start in the first quarter of 2027.

Founded in 2002 and owned by I Squared Capital since 2021, Kio operates 20 data centers in Mexico, Panama, the Dominican Republic, Guatemala, and Colombia. The company’s 13 core data centers offer a combined 26MW of IT capacity.

Kio previously had two facilities in the US, but sold them to Zayo in 2017; both are now operated by DataBank. It recently sold its Spanish operations to El Corte Inglés.
