Intel’s new CEO, Lip-Bu Tan, has made a number of changes to the chipmaker’s leadership team, flattening the structure and appointing a new chief technology and AI officer.
According to a memo sent by Tan and reported by Reuters, Sachin Katti, SVP and GM of Intel’s networking and Edge group, has been made the new technology and AI executive.
In his new role, Katti will be “expanding his responsibilities to include the role of chief technology and AI officer for the company,” Reuters reported. “As part of this, he will lead our overall AI strategy and AI product roadmap, as well as Intel Labs and our relationships with the startup and developer ecosystems."
Katti will succeed Intel’s current CTO Greg Lavender, who is reportedly retiring from the company.
Other changes include having Intel’s data center and AI (DCAI) chip group and personal-computer chip group report directly to Tan. Both groups were previously overseen by Michelle Johnston (MJ) Holthaus, who was co-interim CEO following Pat Gelsinger’s departure in December 2024 and remains chief executive of Intel products.
Rob Bruckner, Mike Hurley, and Lisa Pearce – all VPs of different technical groups at Intel – will also now report into the CEO.
Intel is looking to hire a new head of government affairs, Tan said in the memo, following the departure of Bruce Andrews in the wake of the November US elections.
Tan was appointed CEO of Intel in March 2025, following the sudden ‘retirement’ of Gelsinger. Tan first joined Intel’s board in September 2022 but stepped down in August 2024 after reportedly clashing with then-CEO Gelsinger over his management of the company.
