The Munich-based company said the deal, booked in Q2, is among the largest in its history. It has not named the customer for confidentiality reasons, but more than 200 Innio Jenbacher J624 engines are expected to be deployed, providing behind-the-meter prime power generation across sites in the US. Deliveries of the engines are scheduled in phases.

"This contract highlights the strong and accelerating demand for independent, on-site power solutions in the data center sector," said Olaf Berlien, president and CEO of Innio. "Innio is well-positioned to support customers with rapidly deployable power generation solutions that deliver fuel efficiency, reliability, and sustainability. We are powering the AI revolution."

The Jenbacher J624 is Innio's high-speed gas engine aimed at data center operators, offering containerized, fast-deployment options intended to suit demanding AI load profiles. The engine has a capacity of 4.5MW and is the largest of its Type 6 group.

Innio has increasingly been focusing on the data center market over the past year. Earlier this year, it completed a backup power system demonstration project for data centers using 100 percent hydrogen-fueled gas engines in partnership with the Net Zero Innovation Hub for Data Centers. According to the companies, the test validated that clean hydrogen gas engines can handle heavy data center demands. The tests were conducted at Innio's research facilities in Jenbach, Austria, and Fredericia, Denmark.
