Indian operator Sify Technologies has broken ground on a new data center in Visakhapatnam (aka Vizag).

The company recently held a groundbreaking ceremony for a data center and cable landing station (CLS) in Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh.

Sify Infinit Spaces will develop the site in two phases on 3.6 acres in the Rushikonda–Madhurawada IT Park. The data center facility will reportedly total 50MW, while the CLS will be open for multiple cable operators to use.

Education and IT Minister Nara Lokesh laid the foundation stone at a ceremony this week.

“This milestone strengthens sea-cable connectivity and AI infrastructure, positioning Vizag as India’s next global digital gateway,” he said.

Investment in the project will reportedly total around $169 million.

Sify chairman Raju Vegesna said, “We are proud to enable Visakhapatnam’s transformation into a key hub for global connectivity and digital infrastructure. This initiative is just the beginning of our long-term commitment to strengthening India’s digital economy and advancing AI-led innovation.”

Sify Infinit Spaces Limited is the data center subsidiary of Sify Technologies. Sify operates more than a dozen data centers across India, including Chennai, Lucknow, Noida, Mumbai, Bangalore/Bengaluru, Hyderabad, and Kolkata, totaling around 200MW.

The company is also reportedly set to develop a 500MW site on 25 acres in the Paradesipalem area of Vizag.
