Indian construction conglomerate Larsen & Toubro (L&T) has started work on a new data center in Tamil Nadu.
L&T this week announced that its cloud and data center unit, Vyoma.AI, had broken ground on a new 52MW facility in Chennai, marked with a Bhoomi Pujan ceremony.
The new facility is part of L&T’s planned AI Factory campus in Chennai that already hosts an operational 30MW facility and is supported by 150 MVA of power.
Prashant Chiranjive Jain, managing director – Vyoma.AI, said: “The groundbreaking of our 52MW Chennai data center marks a significant step in strengthening India’s digital infrastructure ecosystem. As AI adoption accelerates, the data center is being designed to deliver the performance, scalability and resilience required for next-generation workloads while advancing sustainable, low-carbon digital infrastructure.”
AI firm Together has previously been announced as a customer of L&T’s Chennai campus.
Vyoma is L&T’s AI cloud and hyperscale data center business, offering sovereign cloud platforms, GPU-as-a-Service, and hyperscale colocation. L&T rebranded its Cloudfiniti data center business to Vyoma last year, adding a cloud platform to the offering in February.
Vyoma.AI’s roadmap is targeting over 250MW of data center capacity across India. It currently has two live data centers – a 2MW facility in Navi Mumbai, and a 30MW facility in Chennai – and two others in development, according to its 2025 annual review. It has previously signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to build a 250MW data center in Gujarat.
