Indian telco Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) is looking to auction land in Kolkata, West Bengal.

Local press report the company is getting ready to sell 11 acres along Jessore Road in the next two to three months. The company is reportedly valuing the land at around Rs 179 crore ($19.9 million), but could potentially reach Rs 250 crore ($27.8m).

The land used to house the BSNL staff quarters and the Madhyamgram Telephone Exchange.

BSNL previously sold a 2.7-acre site in Kankurgachi – a locality of North Kolkata – for Rs 131 crore ($14.5 million).

"We believe that the auction of the Madhyamgram land will break that record. Firstly, the land parcel is significantly larger than the Kankurgachi parcel, and secondly, it is located on Jessore Road, adjacent to Star Mall, near the Kolkata airport. The land is rectangular, ideal for any large real estate project," said a senior BSNL official.

Founded in 2000, BSNL is the fourth-largest mobile operator in India. The company currently has nine data centers across India in New Delhi, Ahmedabad, Faridabad, Alappuzha, Bangalore, Jaipur, Mumbai, Hyderabad, and Ludhiana.

Ramping up its 4G network, the company has deployed 25,000 4G towers across India, in regions including Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, Western Uttar Pradesh, and Haryana.
