"I’m pleased to confirm my new position as managing director and operating partner at MGX," Demasi said in a LinkedIn post.

"I’m excited about MGX’s vision for the transformative role that artificial intelligence will play in advancing global economies and improving our collective quality of life.

"The next several years will indeed be formative for AI, and we’re committed to supporting innovation and strategic investment in best-in-class infrastructure and AI technologies that will be at the core of this change."

State-owned MGX has a vast and rapidly growing portfolio of AI investments, most notably as one of the backers of OpenAI's Stargate project. In 2024, the company also partnered with Microsoft and BlackRock for a $30 billion data center and energy fund.

It is also part of a joint venture with Bpifrance, Mistral AI, and Nvidia that aims to build a giant data center campus in France.

Earlier this year, MGX said that it would invest $8-10bn a year in artificial intelligence infrastructure and companies, with an estimated $100bn to spend overall. Outside of data centers, it has also ploughed $2bn into crypto exchange Binance.

MGX is chaired by Sheikh Tahnoun bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the UAE's National Security Advisor. He is also chair of, and major shareholder in, G42 - which is developing a 5GW mega campus in the UAE, partially for Stargate, alongside other data center projects.

Alongside Demasi's departure from Google, the company's director of global machine learning planning is also set to leave. Jeesoo Lee spent ten years at the company, and was responsible for managing the company's TPU and GPU supply plans.

Lee said he would announce where he's going after July 21.
