Cubico Sustainable Investments has commenced commercial operations at the 132MW Crossett solar park in Ashley County, Arkansas, US.
The project is tied to a long term power purchase agreement (PPA) with Google, which was originally signed in 2018. Google will use the contracted power to support its midwestern operations.
“We are delighted to partner with Google to provide their data center campuses in the Midwest with carbon-free energy from one of our assets. This PPA highlights the crucial role of clean energy projects in sustainably powering data centers as the demand from AI and machine learning grows across America and beyond,” said Stacey Kusters, country head of USA at Cubico.
The agreement was facilitated through LEAP (LevelTen Energy’s Accelerated Process), which Google and LevelTen Energy codeveloped to improve the efficiency of sourcing and executing clean energy PPAs.
Google has signed several PPAs within the US market in 2024. Last month, it inked a long term PPA with Engie North America for 90MW capacity from the 350MW Chillingham solar project in Bell County, Texas.
Before this, in September, it signed a PPA with X-Elio that will see the search giant offtake from X-Elio’s 128MW Bell Solar PV Plant.
So far, in 2024, Google has signed PPAs in the Netherlands, Belgium, Italy, Poland, Singapore, Japan, Nevada, Indiana, Texas, and Arizona.
