Engie North America has signed a power purchase agreement (PPA) with Google to supply energy from its 350MW Chillingham solar project in Bell County, Texas.
Google will offset 90MW from the solar project for an undisclosed period of time.
The project is expected to reach commercial operations later this year. The Chillingham solar project was developed by Engie, who will also construct and operate the project.
The agreement was facilitated through the LEAP program, codeveloped by Google and LevelTen Energy, to streamline the sourcing of PPAs.
“This agreement is another example of how using our scalable procurement approach is transforming the way the industry sells and purchases power, and ultimately speeds up the development of carbon free electricity,” said Amanda Peterson Corio, global head of data center energy at Google.
The PPA is Google's fourth this year in the Texan market, following agreements with Elawan Energy, X-Elio, and SB Energy for a combined 1.1GW of contracted power.
The most recent agreement with SB Energy represented one of the largest PPAs to date contracting power from the Orion Solar Belt, which has a combined capacity of 900MW, 75 percent of which is contracted to Google via the PPA.
