A Google subsidiary has proposed a 1GW AI data center for Visakhapatnam in Andhra Pradesh, India.

As reported by etv Bharat and TICE, Raiden Infotech India Private Limited is seeking to develop campuses that will see around $10 billion invested.

Citing "official sources," the company has submitted a detailed proposal for the development of three data center campuses around the Visakhapatnam district, including 120 acres in Adivivaram, 200 acres in Tarluvada, and 160 acres in the Rambilli–Achyutapuram cluster. The company is expecting the first phase of construction to be completed within two and a half years.

Once approved, the Google subsidiary said it would commence construction straight away - ideally in March 2026 - with operations beginning in July 2028.

Raiden has applied for almost 2.1GW of power allowance from local distribution companies.

According to TICE, the deal is expected to be agreed upon by Andhra Pradesh's IT Minister Nara Lokesh on October 14.

Google was previously reported to be planning a $6 billion data center buildout in Visakhapatnam in July 2025, including $2bn spent on renewable energy development. It is unclear if this project has now been expanded to the new proposal, or if it is in addition to.

Notably, the new data center proposal comes just as speculation arose that US hyperscalers were pausing data center leases and buildouts in India due to trade tensions. DCD reached out at the time for comment for Google, though has yet to receive a statement. We have since requested comment on this new project.

Google Cloud already operates cloud regions in the country, including a region in Mumbai launched back in 2017, and another in Delhi in 2021. It is also planning to launch a sovereign AI cloud with Airtel Business this year. In Q4 2025, the India portion of Google's Blue Raman subsea cable is expected to go live, landing in the western city of Mumbai.

The majority of data center builds in India are located around Mumbai, Hyderabad, Chennai, and Bangalore, though the country as a whole is going through significant growth. At the start of this year, the Andhra Pradesh government announced plans to develop a 500-acre “Data City” in Visakhapatnam. Adani Group is considering a development in the state.
