Google is collaborating with CTC Global to deploy its advanced conductor technology across the US power grid.

The partnership will see the companies submit a Request for Information (RFI) to states, utilities, and transmission developers interested in collaborating on solutions to unlock grid capacity in high-impact locations.

According to the companies, the selected partners and projects “will gain access to a powerful combination of resources to help accelerate deployment, including cost assistance, workforce training, and technical analysis.”

“Expanded grid capacity will enable responsible data center growth underpinning the modern digital world, while also increasing affordability for consumers, boosting energy reliability, and accelerating key industries like manufacturing,” said Amanda Peterson Corio, Google global head of data center energy.

RFI responses are due on July 14, 2025, with a full Request for Proposal (RFP) to shortly follow. The partners encourage applications from locations where Google already has existing or announced data center projects, in addition to their associated wholesale market.

According to Corio, the “partnership aims to dramatically cut the time and cost of adding and moving electricity to reliably power American homes and businesses.”

CTC claims that deployment of its conductors has the potential to double transmission capacity in months, as opposed to the years usually required.

In a pilot project with American Electric Power, CTC deployed its ACCC conductor on two parallel 120-mile 345kV lines near the Gulf of Mexico. Through the project, CTC was able to free up 34MW of generation capacity, reduce line costs by 30 percent, and double the capacity of the transmission lines.

According to CTC, the ACCC conductor provides two times the capacity of conventional conductors, reduces line losses under any load condition, and its high strength nature offers long-term performance over alternatives.

Google has increasingly focused on fostering the development of new technologies to support grid modernization efforts across the US. In April, the company partnered with PJM Interconnection, the US’ largest grid operator, to utilize AI across the RTO’s footprint to facilitate faster grid connection times.

As part of the partnership, Google X moonshot project Tapestry will deploy a unified model of the US grid to help everyone who plans, builds, operates, and manages the grid to optimize energy flow and bring more diverse sources of energy online.
