A German managed services provider suffered a fire at its data center.

Centron operates a data center in the Hallstadt area of Bamberg in the Upper Franconia part of Bavaria. Opened in 2014, the site totals around 1.2MW across 1,600 sqm (17,220 sq ft).

The incident occurred on Thursday (October 9), with a fire breaking out around the facility’s UPS system.

“On 09.10.2025 at 19:42, after maintenance work in the data center Hallstadt, the main low-voltage distribution (NSHV) and the associated UPS system occurred,” Centron said. “As a result, a fire occurred in which no people were harmed.”

The company said that the fire was put out quickly by the local fire service, and all services remained online without interruption during the incident due to the site's redundant infrastructure.

“As part of the root cause analysis, it has emerged that the disorder was due to human misconduct related to maintenance work,” Centron said. “We have introduced additional control mechanisms and quality assurance processes during maintenance work. These include extended four-eye checks, binding checklists before recommissioning, and supplementary training.”

Founded in 1999, Centron offers colocation, cloud, GPU, web hosting, backup, and managed cybersecurity services. It also operates out of a Digital Realty facility in Frankfurt and has previously operated a site in Nuremberg.

“We sincerely apologize to all customers who have experienced temporary interruptions or connection issues with certain services during the incident,” Centron said on its status page. “The security, availability, and stability of our data center infrastructure remain our highest priority.”
