Generator firm Generac is acquiring a maker of generator enclosures and switchgear to expand its data center capabilities.

Wisconsin-based Generac this week announced the signing of a definitive agreement to acquire Enercon Engineering, Inc. Terms of the deal were not shared, but the acquisition is set to close in Q2 2026.

Founded in 1975 and headquartered in East Peoria, Illinois, Enercon designs and manufactures custom power equipment and industrial enclosures. The company has more than 120 employees and operates a 160,000-square-foot (14,864 sqm) manufacturing facility.

Generac said the deal added specialized manufacturing expertise in generator enclosures and switchgear to meet the growing need for backup power.

"Enercon brings 50 years of proven expertise in custom power systems, and their deep in-house engineering and manufacturing capabilities strengthen and accelerate Generac's Commercial & Industrial business. From UL-certified switchgear to power distribution solutions and generator enclosures, this positions us to better serve hyperscale and enterprise data center markets in particular, where reliability, precision, and excellence are critical," said Aaron Jagdfeld, Generac chairman, president, and CEO.

Upon closing, Enercon will operate as "Enercon, a Generac company" under Generac's domestic commercial & industrial business group. The current leadership team will continue to lead the business.

Founded in 1959, NYSE-listed Generac provides power generation equipment, energy storage systems, energy management devices & solutions serving the residential, commercial, data center, telecom, rental, and industrial markets. The company has manufacturing plants in Beaver Dam and Sussex, Wisconsin.

Last year, the firm launched a new range of five generators, ranging from 2.25MW to 3.25MW, targeting the data center space. The company said it can offer lead times of 50-60 weeks for fully packaged generators.

In a November 2025 investor presentation, the company said it had a data center product backlog totaling more than $300 million.
