Gary Demasi has joined Meta after six months at United Arab Emirates-based AI group MGX.

Demasi has been named Meta's vice president of data center development and strategy.

Earlier this year, MGX said that it would invest $8-10bn a year in artificial intelligence infrastructure and companies, with an estimated $100bn to spend overall. In 2024, the company also partnered with Microsoft and BlackRock for a $30 billion data center and energy fund.

It is also part of a joint venture with Bpifrance, Mistral AI, and Nvidia that aims to build a giant data center campus in France.

Prior to his six months at MGX, Demasi spent nearly 19 years at Google.

As the global director of data center energy and location strategy, he led billions in data center developments, gave rise to more than 5GW of renewable energy projects, and represented Google at meetings with heads of state.

Demasi left Google at the same time as the company's director of global machine learning planning. Jeesoo Lee joined Meta as the director of product management.
