Edged Data Centers has launched a 26MW data center in downtown Kansas City, Missouri.
Located at 3420 North Arlington Avenue, plans for the facility were first announced in June last year.
At the time, the facility known as Edged Kansas City was set to deliver 18MW of IT capacity. This has now been expanded to 26MW, though other details and specifications remain unknown.
The facility operates using a ThermalWorks waterless cooling system to save nearly 95 million gallons of water each year compared to conventional data centers, according to the company.
Edged Kansas City also has a PUE of 1.15.
Construction on the site was completed by the construction firm Burns & McDonnell and was built in collaboration with utility providers Evergy and Spire.
“Kansas City is proud to be home to forward-thinking companies driving both environmental stewardship and economic development,” said Kansas City mayor Quinton Lucas. “It’s why we are excited Edged is opening a brand-new sustainable data center in Kansas City; a powerful example of how sustainability and technology can work together. Edged is strengthening Kansas City’s position as a leader in the next generation of digital infrastructure while creating jobs and driving economic growth.”
Bryant Farland, CEO at Edged, added: “The project represents an important step in the region’s continued commitment to sustainable leadership and economic growth. Edged Kansas City represents a $143 million initial economic investment, bringing positive impacts to the city and region at large. We are honored to support Kansas City’s thriving digital economy with innovative and sustainable solutions.”
Edged is part of Endeavour, which was set up by Aligned founder Jakob Carnemark. The company was founded in 2021.
Edged currently has data centers both operational and under construction in the US, in Atlanta, Chicago, Dallas, Columbus, and Phoenix. Outside the US, the operator has data centers across Spain and Portugal, including Madrid, Bilbao, a 24MW data center in Barcelona, and Lisbon.
Google is present in Kansas City’s Northland area. Meta is also close by. Diode Ventures has a planned data center park in the area that was briefly set to be leased to QTS.
