US data center firm EdgeCore has opened a data center in Silicon Valley, California.

The company last week held an opening ceremony for its first facility at its Santa Clara campus.

Once fully built out, the two-building campus will total 72MW of IT load across 540,000 sq ft (50,167 sqm).

EdgeCore broke ground on SV01 in January 2023. The two-story facility offers 36MW across a total of 255,200 sq ft (23,700 sqm).

The firm said the LEED-designed campus has a water utilization effectiveness (WUE) of less than 0.01 and a power usage effectiveness (PUE) of less than 1.3.

Santa Clara Mayor Lisa Gillmor said: “EdgeCore is setting the standard for how companies should conduct themselves in our community.”

Launched in 2018, EdgeCore was acquired by Partners Group in 2022 with plans to invest up to $1.2 billion to fund the acquisition and build-out of existing and future data center sites, and has been on a rapid expansion spree. The company has previously secured more than $2bn in financing to fuel its build-out.

The company currently operates facilities in Silicon Valley and Greater Phoenix. Its facility in Reno, Nevada, is set to be delivered in 2026. The company is also developing multiple sites in Virginia.
