US power management firm Eaton has partnered with Xendee Corporation, a US software company, to develop an AI-powered, fully integrated microgrid solution.

The collaboration will combine Eaton’s microgrid hardware and engineering service capabilities with Xendee’s AI-powered Model Predictive Control software, which evaluates and optimizes microgrid systems using AI-generated alternatives.

“Our partnership with Eaton allows us to provide a full-suite solution for microgrids by combining Xendee’s design and Model Predictive Control software and distributed energy modeling expertise with Eaton’s control hardware and expertise, providing microgrid project owners and developers [with] what they need to implement systems at scale and maximize their return on assets,” said Adib Nasle, co-founder and CEO of Xendee.

According to Xendee, its solution is hardware agnostic, which allows distributed energy resource operators to manage over 27 different types of technologies, including solar, battery energy storage systems, nuclear, linear generators, and combined heat and power.

As a result, the solution will enable real-time operational adjustments in microgrid systems, which the companies claim will lead to significant cost savings, enhanced resilience, reduced emissions, and extended equipment lifespans.

To support the microgrid solution, Eaton led a Series B financing round for Xendee. The results of the funding round were not disclosed.

“We’re confident that uniting Eaton’s proven microgrid expertise, intelligent power management solutions, and services with Xendee’s advanced digital optimization technology will better position microgrid operators to seize the opportunities created by the energy transition,” said Angie McMillin, president of Energy Solutions and Services at Eaton.

Eaton has made several significant announcements this year focused on the data center sector. In June, Eaton partnered with Siemens Energy to develop an on-site modular gas-powered solution for the data center sector.

Before this, in May, the company launched a new uninterruptible power supply (UPS) system for data centers. The new UPS supports 5-11kW, taking up 4U of space.

Xendee is a software company based in San Diego, California. The company’s primary offering is a microgrid design platform built to integrate the feasibility analysis, detailed engineering, and operation of DERs and EV fast-charging infrastructure.
