Duos Edge has rolled out another Edge data center pod to a school district in Texas.

The company, a subsidiary of Duos Technologies, said its latest deployment will serve the Hereford Independent School District (ISD) in the city of Hereford, located 48 miles (77.2km) southwest of Amarillo.

According to Duos, the data center will “provide on-premises, low-latency compute and connectivity to support advanced educational technology, cloud-based learning platforms, and regional business applications.”

It will enable Hereford ISD and the surrounding community to “leverage AI-enabled applications, improve digital equity, and support workforce readiness, while also creating new opportunities for local businesses to adopt advanced computing and data-driven technologies.”

Educating at the Edge

Duos Edge AI is using Edge data centers to connect rural schools in Texas

Dr. Ralph Carter, superintendent of Hereford ISD, said: “This innovative deployment will dramatically enhance our digital infrastructure, providing low-latency access to advanced computing resources that will empower our teachers with cutting-edge tools, enable real-time AI applications in the classroom, and ensure faster, more reliable connectivity for our students and staff.

“In a rural community like ours, bridging the digital divide is essential for preparing the next generation, and this partnership represents a transformative step forward in educational equity and technological excellence.”

Founded in 2001 and based in Jacksonville, Florida, Duos offers vision-based technology solutions to automate inspections of trains, trucks, and automobiles while in motion. The company launched a new Edge unit last year and raised $2.2 million in funding for the initial roll-out.

It has since installed several Edge pods in rural locations across Texas, as well as a site in Illinois, which the company said is the first of a host of planned deployments in the Midwest. A November presentation from the company said it aimed to have a total of 50 modules deployed by the end of 2026.

“Each deployment strengthens our ability to scale a repeatable, capital-efficient edge infrastructure platform,” said Doug Recker, president of Duos Technologies and founder of Duos Edge AI. “Our patented, SOC 2 Type II–audited Edge data centers are purpose-built to meet real customer demand for secure, low-latency computing while supporting long-term revenue growth and disciplined execution across our targeted markets.”
