Colocation firm Digital Realty is using HPE’s private cloud to manage its data center empire.

The firm, which leases space to enterprise clients and cloud hyperscalers at data centers around the world, has signed up for HPE’s Private Cloud Business Edition.

The agreement will apparently “ensure Digital Realty can handle massive data volumes while achieving simplified management, security, and resilience at more than 300 data centers across more than 25 countries on six continents.”

Faramarz Mahdavi, vice president for IT infrastructure and operations at Digital Realty, said the company’s global footprint “requires a technology platform to scale with the growing demands of our customers.”

He continued: “HPE Private Cloud Business Edition brings our vision to life through efficient scaling and streamlined management of infrastructure delivered with a predictable total cost of ownership.

“HPE’s innovation pipeline for its private cloud solutions ensures this is a future-ready platform that enables us to focus on helping global enterprises innovate.”

Whether Digital Realty is hosting its own cloud deployment has not been revealed. The announcement describes the companies as “colocation partners,” and DCD reported in 2020 that HPE’s GreenLake hybrid cloud platform was being run from an Irish data center operated by Interxion, which is owned by Digital Realty. At the time, the companies said they intended to grow their partnership to other Interxion data centers in Europe.

Regardless of whether some form of data center Inception is taking place, Digital has apparently selected HPE’s Alletra Storage MP B10000 servers to store its data.

“Digital Realty has been an exceptional technology and colocation partner for HPE, and their endorsement as a customer demonstrates the tremendous trust they have placed in HPE and our private cloud technologies,” said Cheri Williams, senior vice president and general manager for private cloud and flex solutions at HPE.

“We’re honored that Digital Realty is one of the many leading enterprises that is choosing HPE Private Cloud Business Edition as the flexible, resilient, and cost-effective, self-managed solution for mission-critical, hybrid workloads.”
