The Administrative Office of the U.S. Courts (AOUSC) is looking for a vendor to help enterprise colocation services from two geographically diverse data centers.
The administrative agency of the United States federal court system has published a request for information (RFI) for a provider to meet its needs.
AOUSC currently operates out of a Digital Realty data center in El Segundo, California, and a Csquare facility in Ashburn, Virginia.
In general, courts located east of the Mississippi River (judicial circuit headquarters in Boston, New York, Philadelphia, Richmond, Cincinnati, and Atlanta) are routed to Ashburn as their primary data center, while courts geographically west of the Mississippi River (judicial circuits in New Orleans, Chicago, St Louis, Denver, and San Francisco) are routed to San Diego.
An undisclosed third-party vendor manages the contract with the two data center firms, with that deal set to expire in July 2029.
Following the end of that contract, the AOUSC is seeking a contractor to maintain the two data centers with both remaining fully operational, in a new contract until at least July 2032. Alternatively, the AOUSC is evaluating whether new data center locations should be considered.
"Please note that AOUSC prefers one location to be near Washington, DC," the RFI states.
During the contract, the AOUSC expects to continue to transition to the cloud, primarily through Microsoft Azure and Amazon Web Services.
RFI respondents have until 21 September.
