APAC data center developer and operator Digital Edge is set to develop a data center worth $4.5 billion outside Jakarta, Indonesia.

According to today’s announcement, the company said that the campus, located at the GIIC Industrial Estate, would offer 500MW of capacity with scalability up to 1GW.

The GIIC, or Greenland International Industrial Center, is in Bekasi, a city to the east of Jakarta, Indonesia’s capital. It has a total area of 2,100 hectares and is home to 170 tenants, most of whom are Japanese manufacturing firms.

Digital Edge’s data center will be built in several phases, and the first phase will see the construction of three buildings – the first building set to be operational by Q4 2026, followed by the second in Q1 2027 and the third in Q2 2027.

It is unclear how much capacity will be available after the construction of each building.

The company has also stated that it will aim for a PUE of 1.25 and implement direct-to-chip liquid cooling, recycled water systems, and renewable energy.

New York-based private equity firm Stonepeak Infrastructure Partners formed Digital Edge in August 2020. The company has around 25 data centers in operation and under construction, and more than 1.1GW of secured IT power across Japan, Korea, India, Malaysia, Indonesia, and the Philippines.

Digital Edge entered Indonesia in 2021 after acquiring a majority stake in local operator Indonet. At the time, Indonet had one facility in Jakarta, with a second opening in 2024.
