Digital Edge has launched its second data center in the Indonesian capital Jakarta, and says the new facility is the largest in the region.
Known as EDGE2, the new data center has been under construction since 2022 and is located in Jl. Kuningan Mulia, South Jakarta.
It will be operated PT. Ekagrata Data Gemilang (Edge DC), a subsidiary of PT Indointernet Tbk (Indonet). Digital Edge took full control of Indonet in December last year, having held a majority stake in the company since 2021.
The company says EDGE2 is equipped “with advanced technology to cater to increased demand from hyperscale and AI deployments.” It has an IT capacity of 23MW and more than 3,400 racks.
Samuel Lee, Digital Edge CEO, said: “We are excited by the growth opportunities in Indonesia and this new facility in downtown Jakarta further expands our presence across South East Asia, while bringing much needed capacity to one of the region’s fastest growing digital economies.
“With its innovative and highly energy efficient design, we are confident EDGE2 is well placed to capture the growing wave of demand for the increasingly power-hungry AI and hyperscale deployments that continue to shape Asia’s digital infrastructure landscape.”
EDGE2 is less than 3km from the company’s other Jakarta data center, EDGE1. The two data centers will link up in what Digital Edge calls a “virtual campus,” allowing users of EDGE2 to connect to more than 50 network carriers and several Internet exchanges already located at EDGE1, including Indonesia Internet Exchange (IIX) and Edge Peering Internet Exchange (EPIX).
The new data center features liquid cooling systems for its servers, something which has helped it achieve a PUE (Power Usage Effectiveness) score of 1.24. Digital Edge claims this makes it the most energy-efficient data center in the Jakarta metro.
Stephanus Oscar, CEO of Edge DC, added: "We believe EDGE2 reflects our company’s commitment to excellence and innovation in the digital infrastructure landscape in Indonesia.
“The establishment of EDGE2 marks a significant leap forward, setting new standards and solidifying our position as a leader in the data center industry. EDGE2 is designed to meet the evolving needs of businesses as they adapt to our ever-digitized world, ensuring unparalleled security, reliability, and scalability of our customers’ mission-critical infrastructure.”
Digital Edge was founded by Stonepeak in August 2020. The company has acquired and developed data centers across Japan, South Korea, Indonesia, and the Philippines.
