US operator DataBank has filed to develop a new data center campus in Georgia.

The company has filed a Development of Regional Impact application with the Georgia Department of Community Affairs for a data center campus outside Atlanta in Cartersville.

Cartersville is a city in and the county seat of Bartow County, some 42 miles northwest of downtown Atlanta.

Located on 69 acres at 218 Industrial Park Road, Project Indo will see DataBank develop a 200MW data center campus totaling 1.1 million sq ft (102,193 sqm).

The first phase could launch in 2032.

The land is currently owned by Colloid Environmental Technologies Company (CETCO), a construction materials firm. The existing manufacturing site is close to a substation.

At full build-out, the project could be valued at $2.4 billion. The company has filed for a 288MW utility grid connection.

Founded in 2005, DataBank operates more than 65 data centers across the US in 25 metro markets.

DataBank’s existing footprint around Atlanta totals 177MW across six facilities and 751,270 sq ft. This would be the company’s largest site in the area, and the furthest from downtown.

Atlanta and its surrounding areas have traditionally been a Tier 2 market, but increased demand for data centers has resulted in a surge of data center proposals. DRI applications for more than a dozen campuses, totaling tens of millions of square feet across dozens of buildings, have been filed over the last couple of years. While many are in Atlanta’s traditional data center heartland around Fulton County, applications have been filed for projects across the Peach State.
