CyrusOne has filed to build a new data center in San Antonio, Texas.
As reported by BizJournal, the colocation company this week filed with the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation for the 'CyrusOne SAT 8 & 9' project.
According to the application, the company aims to invest $15 million in developing a two-story data center and office building at 14815 Omicron Drive in Bexar County.
Spanning 279,730 sq ft (25,990 sqm), the project will include admin areas and four data halls with electrical and mechanical rooms. Construction is set to run from April 2024 to December 2025.
Citing Bexar County records, BJ reports the company purchased the land at 14815 Omicron Drive in 2021 for an undisclosed amount.
"CyrusOne recently purchased land/property in San Antonio," a company spokesperson told the publication. "CyrusOne currently has several data centers in the San Antonio area, and the company will share details about its plans for the property in the coming months."
Dallas-based CyrusOne operates a number of data centers in San Antonio, currently listing three on its site: the 9MW SAT1 at 9999 Westover Hills Blvd, the 36MW SAT2 at 9554 Westover Hills Blvd, and the 18MW SAT5 at 14719 Omicron Drive. The new project is located directly south of CyrusOne’s SAT5 facility.
In September, CyrusOne also acquired more than 25 acres nearby at 15355 Lambda Drive for the construction of two data centers, designated SAT10 and SAT11. Details on those projects haven’t been shared.
Microsoft operates a large campus nearby at 15000 Lambda Drive. The company recently completed another 79,385 sq ft (7,375 sqm) data center at the Texas Research Park campus, known as SAT46. At full build-out, the site will total more than one million sq ft.
A number of companies are also building facilities nearby. Vantage, QTS, and CloudHQ have all acquired land along Omicron Drive and Lambda Drive, close to Microsoft’s campus.
