US-based Cybastion is developing a 20MW data center in Gabon, Central Africa.

As reported by DC Mag, Cybastion's CEO Thierry Wandji signed a strategic agreement with the Gabonese government - represented by the Minister of Digital Economy and New Technologies - on January 28.

Cybastion will work with the Gabonese government and digital communications technology company Cisco on the data center project.

According to the parties, it's hoped that the data center will help reduce dependence on foreign infrastructure for national data.

The facility will be located in the capital city of Libreville. A symbolic foundation stone has already been laid at the site, which will be constructed by Porteo SA.

In addition to the data center, the Gabonese government will establish a 20MW gas power plant to provide energy to the data center.

The company is also launching "Africa DigiEmpower," an initiative aiming to train people in the country through the Cisco Networking Academy.

According to Cybastion's website, its goal is to "empower Africa's digital future by creating secure, resilient, and reliable digital ecosystems." The company has previously worked with the Liberian government on a data center and subsea cable project and a data center project in Côte d’Ivoire.

Another data center project is being developed in Libreville, Gabon. The data center is located in Nkok Special Economic Zone, an industrial park, and will be operated by pan-African provider ST Digital. Support will be provided by Gabon’s Ministry of the Digital Economy.

Data Center Journal lists three data centers in Libreville, including the Gabon Internet eXchange and Airtel Gabon.
