A data center is being planned in Toronto, Canada.

As reported by ConstructConnect, local developer Beeches Development Inc. is proposing an 87,000-square-foot (8,083 sqm) data center in a business park in Leaside.

Ground could break on the seven-story facility next year if an anchor tenant is secured, according to the company. Further details weren’t shared.

“We have the space, the location, and the approvals,” said Beeches president Charles Goldsmith, adding that Beeches will tailor the design to suit the needs of the lessee.

Goldsmith had originally planned an office building on the property – previously known as Leaside Innovation Centre at 154-156 Wicksteed Avenue – but this was dropped during the Covid-19 pandemic. A follow-up plan for a life sciences lab failed to secure an anchor tenant. The office plans would have been for a timber-based building.

The site is currently home to a single-story property, housing flooring provider the Floor Shop.

Toronto is one of Canada's main data center hubs. Operators present in the area include Hut 8, Digital Realty, Cologix, Telehouse, Centersquare, EdgeConneX, Urbacon, Serverfarm, Equinix, eStruxture, Stack, Yondr, and numerous others.
