A 500-acre data center could be built near Austin, Texas.

Data center developer PowerHouse Data Centers is looking to build a facility in Caldwell County, located in between Austin and San Antonio.

Although details about the facility are sparse, it is known that the company is looking to build the data center in the Caldwell Valley Technology Park.

This is located close to the city of Uhland, which sits between Caldwell County and neighboring Hays County.

Caldwell Valley Technology Park is backed by powered land developer Tract, and the company has stated that the site can reportedly support up to 4GW of capacity.

But in a bid to sidestep opposition, PowerHouse has filed a petition to release the proposed facility from Uhland’s jurisdiction, preferring to take the proposal up with Caldwell County instead, according to a report by the Austin Business Journal.

In Texas, counties have less power than cities to regulate and manage data centers, especially when it comes to planning and zoning.

PowerHouse Data Centers was founded by American Real Estate Partners in 2022.

The company has an existing presence in Texas: in March, it topped out a 201MW data center in Irving, Dallas, and it is currently developing a 768-acre campus with Provident Data Centers just south of Dallas in Ellis County.

The company has projects in operation and development across Virginia, Texas, North Carolina, Kentucky, Indiana, Nevada, and Pennsylvania, and its pipeline reportedly totals more than 8GW of capacity.
