Canadian data center firm QScale has started work on a new building at its campus in Québec City.

The company this week announced construction had started on the second building at its Q01 campus in Lévis.

The new building (Q01‑Building‑B) will add 60MW of capacity. The company is investing CA$700 million (US$503 million) in the project, and the facility will reportedly be able to support densities up to 600kW.

“Starting construction of Q01‑Building‑B is an important milestone for QScale and for Québec. The world needs vastly more compute, and it needs that compute to be clean, dense, efficient, and resilient. This expansion lets us meet that demand on Canadian soil while creating high-quality jobs and reusing energy for the benefit of our community,” said Martin Bouchard, co-founder and CEO, QScale.

QScale was founded in 2018 and began construction on its first campus, QScale Q01, in Levis, Québec, in 2021. Construction of the second phase of the first building began in 2022. The site is expected to have 142MW of IT capacity at full build-out across 313,000 sq ft (29,079 sqm) of white space.

The company has previously announced plans for a second campus in the Ecoparc de Saint-Bruno-de-Montarville, Montreal.

Goldman Sachs acquired the company earlier this year, with Aligned and the Québec government having previously invested in the firm.

At the time of the acquisition, Goldman Sachs said QScale is “actively developing additional campuses across Canada” to support accelerating customer demand.
