Boldyn Networks has announced it will deploy a private network at Ontario International Airport (ONT) in California.
The company confirmed today (September 24) that it has been selected to design, build, and operate a private wireless network at the airport, where it plans to deploy both 4G and 5G connectivity.
This will see the neutral host provider build the private network to support security operations and future innovation at the airport.
ONT serves more than seven million passengers each year and is one of Southern California's fastest-growing airports.
The airport has decided to opt for a private wireless network as opposed to a public one. This will utilize a segmented architecture, dedicated spectrum, and enterprise-level controls to support mission-critical applications that will scale alongside its rapid passenger and cargo growth.
"Investing in a private wireless network gives Ontario International Airport the operational autonomy necessary to manage and secure our more than 1,700-acre footprint with precision," said Chuck Miwa, SVP and CIO for the Ontario International Airport Authority.
"Modernizing our communication infrastructure ensures that as our passenger volumes continue to climb, our ability to monitor, respond, and manage airfield security remains ahead of the curve, providing a seamless and secure environment for our passengers and tenants."
Boldyn's private network deployment will initially support physical security and perimeter intrusion detection at the airport, though will also expand to advanced camera coverage across the site.
The company's mobile private network combines 4G/5G access, on-premise Edge compute and centralized private cloud management. A 24/7 Network Operations Center (NOC) and Security Operations Center (SOC) provide additional backup for the airport's most critical security operations.
"We're applying our experience from supporting passenger journeys at some of the world's largest transit hubs to design a network that can handle the complex, high‑interference environment of a major US cargo hub," said Jason Caliento, chief commercial officer, US for Boldyn Networks.
"By managing this network through our dedicated NOC and SOC, we are delivering a scalable platform that supports immediate security requirements while providing the bandwidth and low latency required for the airport's long-term innovation roadmap."
Boldyn specializes in deploying network infrastructure for major transport systems, airports, stadiums, campuses, and military bases, to industrial hubs and smart cities. Outside of the US, the company notably struck an agreement earlier this year to undertake a major connectivity upgrade at the Silverstone race track, where the British F1 Grand Prix is hosted.
Some of Boldyn's transport network projects include working with Transport for London to provide 5G-ready mobile coverage across the entire London Underground network. Boldyn has also provided coverage upgrades in New York on the MTA subway, San Francisco for the BART (Bay Area Rapid Transit), and also in Rome, Italy.
