Blackstone’s Indian data center platform Lumina CloudInfra may invest $1.1bn to develop a data center on the country’s eastern coast, according to a report from local publication The Economic Times.

The report states that Lumina acquired a 16-acre land parcel in Ambattur to construct a data center with an initial capacity of 216MW.

Ambattur is located in the northwestern part of Chennai, the capital of the eastern coastal state of Tamil Nadu.

Details about the facility are sparse, and neither Lumina nor Blackstone have issued an official press release about its development plans.

But Lumina CEO Anil Reddy has unofficially endorsed these reports by reposting information about the potential facility on LinkedIn.

Reddy has previously reposted articles written about the company’s plans in lieu of formal press announcements. Last September, the CEO reposted another Economic Times article about Lumina’s plans to develop a 60MW data center in Mumbai.

Lumina was founded by alternative investment giant Blackstone in November 2022, stating at the time that there was 600MW in planned data center capacity.
