Thai energy producer B.Grimm Power (BGRIM) plans to offer energy solutions to Thailand's growing data center sector and is currently in talks with several firms.

"We aim to forge energy partnerships with data center operators," said Nopadej Karnasuta, president for domestic market and industrial solutions, BGRIM.

BGRIM intends to spend between 5 billion baht ($145 million) and 7 billion baht ($203 million) to support its expansion into the data center power market, according to the Bangkok Post.

The company has partnered with industrial estate developer Amata Corporation to provide energy solutions, including power supply management, for data centers in Chonburi Industrial Park, Amata City, Thailand.

In addition, BGRIM plans to sign Power Purchase Agreements with data center firms nationwide to supply up to 310MW of power.

"The business plan of our partnership with data center operators will be concluded within the first quarter of next year," said Karnasuta.

The company also plans to increase its total power supply to 10GW from 4GW from its power plants in 15 countries. Most of this new capacity will be renewable, including solar, wind, and hydroelectric power. In 2025 alone, the company expects to add 900MW of new power supply.

BGRIM first announced plans to expand into the data center industry in May. The company reported that it was in talks to supply 300MW of electricity from renewable sources to data center operators and will also provide equipment for the industry.

According to its website, the company currently has an installed capacity of 3338MW and aims to obtain PPAs totaling 10,000MW by 2030.

The Thai data center market has expanded significantly in recent years. Revenue is projected to reach $2.35 billion in 2024 and grow by an annual growth rate of five percent, reaching a market volume of $3 billion by 2029.

Thailand currently has 41 operational data centers and has seen a host of announced facilities in 2024.

In November, the Thai Board of Investment approved two major data center projects in the Chonburi region, just southeast of Bangkok. The first project, valued at 32 billion baht ($950m), will be built by Quartz Computing, an affiliate of Google’s parent company, Alphabet Inc., and is scheduled for completion by 2026. Chinese tech firm GDS subsidiary Digitalland Services will build the second data center project, valued at 28 billion baht ($831m).

In September, Google announced plans to spend $1 billion on cloud and data infrastructure in Thailand. Microsoft and AWS have also announced plans to build cloud and AI infrastructure in Thailand.
