Backblaze said it will be able to provide cloud storage services to Canadian customers while meeting data sovereignty requirements with the new data center location.

"Partnering with Cologix enables us to directly address the growing need for in-country data storage in Canada,” said Chris Opat, senior VP of cloud operations at Backblaze. “TOR3’s robust infrastructure and connectivity, combined with our cost-effective storage solutions, empowers international businesses to maintain data sovereignty without compromising performance or affordability."

“The addition of Backblaze to our TOR3 facility further strengthens our position as a key enabler of digital transformation in Canada," said Sean Maskell, president and general manager, Cologix Canada. "This collaboration underscores our commitment to providing state-of-the-art digital infrastructure that not only meets the growing demand for high-performance cloud storage but also addresses critical data sovereignty requirements.”

Located in downtown Toronto, TOR3 is a 20,000 sq ft data center with 2MW of IT capacity. It is situated on the same campus as Cologix's TOR2 data center.

Cologix operates 22 data centers in Canada across Montréal, Toronto, and Vancouver, two of which were acquired from Cyxtera in 2023.

Backblaze is headquartered in San Mateo, California, and was founded in 2007. The company also leases capacity at Nautilus' floating data center in Stockton, California. CoreWeave is a known partner of Backblaze.
