Amazon Web Services (AWS) has significantly reduced costs for accessing Nvidia H100 and A100 GPUs on its platform.

Revealed by the company on June 5, the price reductions have applied to on-demand purchases since June 1, and to Savings Plans purchases after June 4.

The instances impacted are the P4d (A100), P4de (A100), P5 (H100), and P5en (H200).

The on-demand price reduction is 33 percent for A100s across both instance types, 25 percent for the H200 instance type, and 44 percent for the H100 instance.

The 'Savings Plans' cost reduction varies from 25 percent in three years, to 45 percent in three years.

AWS offers two Savings Plans - EC2 Instance and Compute. The former offers the lowest prices in exchange for commitment to use of instances in a Region, while the latter is more flexible regardless of instance type and location. The company has also made the B200 P6 instances available through savings plans.

In a blog post, AWS explained: "Regular price reductions on AWS services have been a standard way for AWS to pass on the economic efficiencies gained from our scale back to our customers."

The company added that high demand for GPU capacity has historically outpaced industry-wide supply, making GPUs more expensive to access.

While AWS puts this reduction down to economies of scale, DCD has previously spoken to Ditlev Bredahl, CEO of host.AI, a company offering a GPU orchestration platform to help GPUaaS providers, who had some concerns about the ongoing economics of GPUs.

“A year ago or so, an H100 was maybe $5-6 per hour. Now, it's around 75 cents, maybe less. Hardware typically depreciates in three to five years, but that's happening in a year now," Bredahl told DCD, though noted that this was more of an issue for neoclouds who have a "one-to-one relationship between the rental property and the customer.”

Bredahl explained: “Let’s say your leasing cost is fixed over three years or even five years. But if your revenue is eroded by 80 percent in just 12 months, then you have a real problem.” In the case of AWS, the reduction of pricing is unlikely to hurt its business in the same way.

AWS made the Nvidia B200 GPUs generally available in May 2025, and the previous generation - the H100s - in July 2023.
