The JV will focus on initially developing data centers in crucial US metropolitan areas, with plans for global expansion. Further details weren't provided.

The decision to form the JV was based on the desire to capitalize on the rising demand for resilient, flexible, and environmentally responsible digital infrastructure driven by the AI and edge computing boom.

Syed Natif Nawaz, CEO of Aurum Group, said: "The formation of AuNex marks a significant milestone in our mission to drive innovation in critical infrastructure. By leveraging our collective expertise, we're poised to redefine the future of data centers globally."

Chris Mullaly, Partner of DigitalNexus, added: "By integrating AI functionality and prioritizing ESG commitments, AuNex will establish new benchmarks for data center development. Our combined technological and financial strengths will enable us to outpace the market by offering innovative and responsible solutions."

Further details on the JV were not shared. DCD has approached AuNex Datacenters and Aurum Group for further comment.

Aurum Group comprises three entities focused on different aspects of the digital infrastructure sector.

They include Aurum Group, an advisory firm; Aurum Equity Partners, which specializes in infrastructure, technology, and energy investments; and Aurum Venture Partners, which focuses on startup investments in the technology sector.

Over recent years, Aurum has signed several notable deals in the data center market. For example, in May 2023, it launched a new $250 million global private equity fund to invest in data centers and other infrastructure.

Following this, in October 2023, it announced an MoU with Al Nowais Group (via its Emirates United Economy subsidiary) to jointly invest in a 50MW data center in Saudi Arabia.

DigitalNexus Partners is an AI-driven data center real estate developer and asset manager. The company is developing projects in Houston, Dallas, Austin, Phoenix, and Atlanta. However, there are currently no fixed timelines for the development of these projects.
