AT&T executive vice president and head of network, Chris Sambar, will leave the US carrier this week.

Sambar, who has held various roles at AT&T during the last 22 years, will leave his role on October 11.

His departure was confirmed by the carrier to employees via a memo last week (October 3).

"Chris has played a crucial role in delivering on our commitment to be the best connectivity provider in the US. His work has been instrumental to advancing 5G, launching FirstNet, and expanding fiber to millions of homes and businesses," said AT&T to its employees.

Details about Sambar's replacement were not disclosed.

Sambar first joined AT&T in 2002, initially as a network operations manager. During the course of his career at the telco, Sambar held a number of senior roles, covering several regions across the US.

Prior to joining AT&T, Sambar served as a commander for the US Navy.

In August, Sambar joined the board at AST SpaceMobile.
